A new Whole Foods opened in my neighborhood, so I went for my maiden voyage this weekend. I must have been distracted by the buzz and the new Whole Foods store smell, because in my euphoria, I dropped over $9 on a box of five tiny chocolates. These Bissinger's Chardonnay Salt Caramels drew me in with their glistening salt topping and impressive nutritionals (for chocolate). For three decadent pieces, it's only 150 calories and 3.5 grams of fat.
Despite the price tag, I have to say they did not disappoint. They were decadent and delicious with the perfect combo of salty and sweet. The caramel was on the firmer side, which I prefer, but still tasted fresh and smooth. I didn't detect any chardonnay flavor, but I don't know if that is really a complaint since the flavor was lovely as is. Two pieces made quite a satisfying dessert leaving me with three more for a second sitting.
